Do you feel that you are the only adult who cannot ride a bike? Our experience shows otherwise - you are not alone! Many adults can't ride a bike and for many different reasons. It is not something people tend to mention which is why you probably feel you are the only one.
 |
| Do any of these comments sound familiar? |
 |
Do people sometimes say? |
 |
- "I have never tried to ride a bike"
- "I was never given the opportunity to learn"
- "I tried once with friends and family helping me but it nearly ended in disaster"
|
 |
- "Of course everyone can ride a bike"
- "Its easy, you just get on and pedal; nothing to it'"
- "You don't need lessons."
|
There are many good reasons why adults want to learn to ride a bike.
Here are some examples:
- "My partner and I are retired, he/she can ride a bike and we would like to go cycling together"
- "I want to be able to go cycling with the children now that they are learning"
- "I want to be able to go cycling with the grandchildren"
- "It would be a nice way to take more exercise"
- " I recently learnt how to swim and I now want to learn how to ride a bike"

| Course 2: |
 |
Adult returning to cycling |
 |
 |
 |
More and more people are looking to get back into cycling both for the enjoyment as well as the health benefits. Sometimes this is after a long time away from the saddle. As a result, many people naturally have some concerns, for example:
- "Have I forgotten how to ride a bike?"
- "Will I fall off?"
- "What about the traffic?"
- "I haven't got the right equipment."
- "Bikes have changed so much!"
- "How do you use the gears?"
If you fall into this category, we have the course to suit you. Come to the picturesque Dorset/ Hampshire border for the day and have the cycling cobwebs blown away!
We run a course for people like you who want to get back into cycling after a break (55 years is the longest so far!). We provide a safe environment and aim to make the experience enjoyable and fun, and we provide all the necessary assistance and equipment.
What does the course comprise?
There are two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There is no rush to get going. We provide the right size bike and adjust it for your height. Gears and brakes are explained and a reminder of how to ride is given before setting off. Help and guidance is on hand if you are a bit wobbly to start. Further guidance is provided whilst en route.
Your instructor will take you on routes designed to help build your confidence. These routes are off-road cycle tracks, so you don't have to worry about any traffic.
We don't go very fast or too far. There are plenty of stops and opportunities to enjoy the countryside.
If you would like to include a re-introduction to road cycling, let us know and we will include some quiet roads into the planned routes.
